Corporate Family Fun Days: Finding Space for Staff Families on Open Ground | LZM

The date is fixed, the invitations are out, and three hundred people are coming — employees, partners, and a large number of children. The company has a car park, a lawn beside the office, and a budget that will not stretch to a hotel function room for that many people.

Corporate family fun days are not team-building away days with a different name. They are one big social event where the whole household turns up, and the space problem is different: not a meeting room for thirty, but a covered, serviced area for a few hundred that can absorb a British summer or a Middle Eastern one without cancelling the day.

What a family day actually asks of the site

All of them arrive at once. A family day has a 45-minute arrival window and a similar departure one, plus a lunch service in between — three peaks a normal office site was never designed for.

Children change every requirement. Toilet provision, shade, soft ground rather than tarmac, and a clear boundary so nobody wanders towards a car park or a road.

Everything is temporary and repeated annually. Staging, sound, stalls, inflatables, catering lines, generators and a first-aid point all arrive, get used for one day, and leave.

Lunch is a single sitting. Catering has to run through a queue of several hundred in a tight window, which means a covered service line, a route in from the delivery vehicle, and waste removal planned before the day rather than during it.

Why the usual answers run out

Car park and office grounds. Free, and the reason most family days look improvised: no shelter, no service route, and you give up the parking everyone needs. The pub or village hall. Works for eighty, then hits capacity, and the outdoor part of the day still depends on the weather. A theme park or attraction. Solves shelter, but at a per-head cost that scales with the guest list, and the staff scatter into separate groups, which is the opposite of the point. A hotel function room. Fine as a plan B, yet the seated capacity for several hundred rarely exists, and the outside space is a terrace. Hiring a field and a marquee. The most common answer, and an annual one: build and strike days, a working surface to repair, exposure to wind and rain, and the same invoice every season.

What a bookable hall on site changes

A relocatable hall removes the weather decision. It arrives on its own chassis, is expanded by a single operator in around 30 minutes, and stays on site for as long as the event needs — the category LZM builds as a mobile event hall for company days.

For a family day the useful numbers are the ones that decide layout, not the brochure headline. A usable floor area between roughly 96 and 235 m² covers a seated lunch plus interior stalls, while an interior height around 3.8 m and above lets you raise a stage, a banner wall or a small activity frame without everything having to shrink to fit. The roof is designed for around 300 kg/m² of distributed load, so lighting and signage hang from the structure instead of from a hired frame that has to be checked on the day.

Settle the site before you book

Ground. Turf protects better with matting, and the hall needs a level pad. Services. Confirm where power, water and drainage can be brought in, and who provides them. Toilets and waste. Size both to total headcount, not to the adult count. Access. The delivery vehicle needs a route in and a place to stand while the unit is positioned and collected. Quiet hours and neighbours. Agree the finish time with whoever signs off on noise, in writing. Ownership. Decide in advance who is responsible for the ground, the power supply and the clearing-up.

Then fix the wet-weather trigger: the date by which you decide to move lunch indoors, and who makes that call. Companies that write that decision down stop treating the forecast as a risk and start treating it as a plan.

Send the headcount, the month and whether children will be in the same space as the staff bar, and we will point to the layout that fits.

Start with the date and the headcount on WhatsApp: +86 186 6381 3961, or send the site plan through to [email protected]; everything we publish sits at www.lgloader.com.
