An off-road caravan's electrical system is built for one market, not for all of them. Mains voltage and frequency, shore power inlet type, appliance selection, gas cylinder connections and charging architecture are all fixed at the factory, and they are expensive to change once the unit is on the water. Importers who settle these points before production starts avoid the two most common post-arrival problems: appliances that cannot run on local power, and a caravan that is awkward or costly to service in the destination market.
Electrical specification is not an accessory you add later. Wiring looms, appliance cut-outs, mounting points, gas lines, socket positions and the shore power inlet are all installed during the build. Changing them after arrival means removing cabinetry, replacing appliances, re-running cable and re-testing the installation — work that comes out of your margin and delays the unit reaching a dealer floor.
That is why the electrical package belongs in the specification sheet you negotiate, not in the last email before the container is loaded.

The 12V side of the caravan is largely market-neutral. LED lighting, 12V water pumps, 12V ventilation and 12V compressor refrigerators are the same product regardless of destination. The risk concentrates on the AC side, which is exactly where the expensive components sit.
The question to put to any supplier is therefore specific: which fitted appliances are mains-powered, what voltage and frequency are they supplied in, and can the same model be built with our market's standard? A vague answer here usually means the unit was built against a generic export specification and the appliances will need to be sourced locally.

For an importer this matters commercially rather than technically. Off-grid capability determines which end customers the unit suits: rental fleets running remote itineraries, long-distance touring buyers, and customers who expect to run air conditioning without a powered site. Specify the capability your market actually asks for at the point of sale, and you avoid carrying inventory that cannot answer the most common customer question.
The inlet assembly, cable and plug have to match the destination country, and plug shapes are not interchangeable between markets. Two details are worth writing into the order:
A mismatch is a small cost for the factory and an irritating one for your customer, because it shows up the first time they plug in at a campsite. Confirm the inlet and cable standard in writing, and check it against the campsite pedestals common in your market.

The control that works is a simple one: ask for the fitted appliance list with the make and model of each item, then require written confirmation that each appliance is supplied in your market's voltage and frequency. Leave the make and model open, and you will almost certainly receive a substitution at build time.
Gas hardware is where specification mistakes survive longest, because they only appear when the end customer tries to refill.
Before ordering, confirm the cylinder size the holder accepts, the connection and regulator standard, and what is supplied with the unit. Also check what documentation your local authority expects for gas installations before the container ships — requirements differ by country, and they are easier to satisfy with the factory's cooperation than after arrival.
Voltage-specific components cannot be pooled across markets. If you import for more than one country, keep separate spare lists for chargers, air conditioning units, heating elements and mains appliances, and order the spares matching each market's voltage.
Serviceability deserves the same attention. Generic 12V and gas items are usually serviceable by local RV technicians; brand-specific electronics may need parts from the factory. Ask which components carry a warranty, who supplies replacements, and how long a spare part takes to reach your warehouse. A dealer can absorb a slow spare part. A rental fleet cannot.
Before requesting a quotation, assemble the destination requirements into one sheet and ask the supplier to confirm each line in writing. Largely yes — DC equipment is not tied to a country's mains standard. What still needs confirming is the charging architecture: charger input range, DC-to-DC charging from the tow vehicle, and the inverter output, because those decide how the system behaves once it is plugged into local power.
Air conditioning, microwave, mains-powered refrigerators, electric water heating elements, internal sockets and any mains-powered entertainment equipment. Televisions additionally depend on the local broadcast standard. Handle these as a group rather than appliance by appliance, and ask for one written confirmation covering the set.
Follow the market the unit will be registered and sold in. That is also what determines which technicians can service it and which spares are relevant. Where a dealer network spans markets with different standards, keep the model codes separate rather than trying to build a universal unit that compromises every market.
